Solastalgia

Solastalgia (/ˌsɒləˈstældʒə/):  "the homesickness you have when you are still at home". This neologism, coined by the philosopher Glenn Albrecht, derives from the combination of the Latin words sōlācium (comfort) and the Greek root -algia (pain, grief) and defines the existential distress caused by environmental and climate change. A psychological sickness that turns into physical pain and discomfort invading the body. The distress felt at living in a house in ruins, our common home on Earth, is reflected in the discomfort of experiencing one's own body, home of the self, being dispossessed and whose future is being robbed. Through my photos I give a concrete and visible form to this modern malaise, a real nemesis of the young generations all over the world.

From an aesthetic point of view, the graininess and blurriness of the image, as well as the minimalist dreamlike, nightmarish, setting, are intended to reflect the feeling of uncertainty and lack of definition that dominates the mind of those suffering from this sickness. A pervasive sense of insecurity for a future that terrifies us. A future that no longer gives us oxygen but, on the contrary, keeps us from breathing. A future populated by ghosts, like the bodies that haunt my images.
